Book Plot
Malin Kundang, Si Tanggang also called Nakhoda Manis, is a southeast Asian folktale that tells a story on an ungrateful son. He is a sailor from a poor family, the protagonist sneaks onto a trading ship, eventually becoming rich, marrying a princess, and acquiring his own galleon. On his return to his home village, he is ashamed of his home and refuses to recognise his mother. His mother cursed him into a stone.
Thinking Process: Throughout my research on composite images; they are all associated with the words ‘out of your mind’ ‘mind-blowing and ‘crazy fantasies’ imagery. The designs are usually: in a big scale and proportion.
Throughout the process in making the composite book cover of 'Malin Kundang' i had a clear imagination of what it will look like; when searching for the CC images, i ought to look for an abstract human sculpture or stone that could represent the 'cursed son' character, as well as an image that could depict his poor mother. Another aspect of imagery i wanted to focus on -  is the background. In this case, i have chosen a stormy and cloudy background; for the audience to feel the 'darkness' and hopefully the feel of curiosity of the story; what is the story? what did the son do cruelly to his mother? etc.
Imagery: Vast Sea, storm, sculpture, woman praying.
